Scandals at the Mindef

The Malaysian Defence Force has become an object of ridicule.  It is not as if someone is trying to find faults with it, but it is due to the so many unfortunate incidences that have fast become its trademarks.
1.  The latest incidence involving the brand-new submarine, which was supposed to be one of the institution's few prides,  is just the last of the series.
2.  The high-profile submarine, named after the beloved first premier, just cannot dive.
3.  That is a serious flaw.
4.  A submarine is supposed to be a robust piece of machine.
5.  If we were to believe the official comment, it was just a small problem which will be rectified in just a few moments.
6.  But then the official made huge dent in the optimistic assessment:  the spare parts are not presently available and that we need the experts to come from overseas to see the problem fixed.
7.  The fact stands that the submarine has yet to see itself in action.
8.  Just imagine what would happen if we were in a war.
9.  That we would always be at the mercy of some foreign experts is, in essence, surrendering our national independence.
10. But then that is just one of the many utterly embarrassing incidences in the nation's military.
11.  Besides the Navy, the Air Force and the Armed Forces have their shares of the problems.
12.  The scandals of the refurbished F-5E fighters moth-balled somewhere on a US desert, the missing jet engines, the fallible Nuri helicopters, ... and the list goes on.
13.  Our military deaths in peace time is probably higher than combat deaths of some other nations, largely due to avoidable circumstances such faulty machines.
14.  That most of the origins of the problems can be traced back to the present PM's tenure as the Defence Minister is something one has to seriously ponder ...
